My Story

Six Picture.jpg

I've always had a love of education. From the earliest days when mother led Sunday school at our local church, I found myself drawn to juxtaposition of curiosity and knowledge. The Lord has blessed me with communication skills that I utilize to bring people together and illuminate core truths in the classroom and in the congregation. If you'd like to invite me to help out, whether a speaking engagement, podcast, or written piece, contact me today!

VISD high schools reopen after 2-month closure

“Welcome to class today,” the English teacher said. “It is so good to see your faces. Those who are online, it’s good to see your avatars.”

Pandemic year changes education

Last year, students celebrated when they learned they received an extra week of spring break because of a virus they had never heard of before. Little did many know, it would be their last time on campus for the rest of the school year.

It was an offer Frank Sixtos couldn’t refuse.
In 1988, Frank was working as an electrician’s helper in Port Lavaca when his friend approached him with a surprising proposition.

VISD students put their grit to the test

Teacher of the Year nominees reflect on love for education

When Savannah heard her teacher had been named one of the top finalists in a regional teaching competition, she said she wasn't surprised.

PRO: Yes, accountability is a good thing
Although he doesn't believe that state test scores are truly reflective of the kind of teacher a person is, Jonathan Sixtos, an English teacher at Victoria East High School, said he is in favor of accountability.
"I believe it's a good thing to have in place," Sixtos said. "The challenge with the system right now is, 'How do you balance for inequities within student demographics?'"

School might be out for summer, but some teachers opt for seasonal work

Victoria East High School's final bell May 30 marked more than the start of summer vacation. It also marked the end of Jonathan Sixtos' first teaching stint.
The freshmen English teacher joined the staff in January, when another teacher stepped down, he said, and he survived those first months in the classroom.
